Biography
Yejin Kwon is a Korean composer based in Montréal, Canada, working across orchestral, chamber, film, electronic, and Korean traditional music. Her work is characterized by refined timbral sensitivity, emotional depth, and a distinctive cross-cultural sonic language that bridges diverse musical traditions and contemporary practices.
Her music has been performed and presented in Canada and Korea through collaborations with orchestras, chamber ensembles, filmmakers, and multidisciplinary artists. She is particularly drawn to the expressive possibilities of orchestral and chamber music, exploring narrative, memory, and human connection through sound.
In 2022, she released the orchestral album Biblioteca. Her orchestral work White-Clad was premiered by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra at the Winnipeg New Music Festival in 2024. In 2025, she was selected as one of seven composers for the 3rd Character Market at the 54th Festival du Nouveau Cinéma in Montréal.
In 2026, she is an Artist-in-Residence at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. Her piano trio Forever Classical Series 1, Nos. 1–3 was commissioned by Trio Timia.
Kwon holds degrees in composition, sound creation, film scoring, and French literature from institutions in Seoul, Paris, and Montréal. She is a member of the Association of Canadian Women Composers and an associate composer of the Canadian Music Centre.
